I'm Late, I'm Late, For A Very Important Date!: 2005

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!"

We try so hard to be careful about the appointments we have by checking and double checking, but we knew something was amiss when we saw people leaving the church as we were arriving. They had told us to be there at 8 p.m., but it seems they thought they told us earlier. Some of the children had left, but there were still many there. They escorted us to two over stuffed chairs on either side of a fake fireplace, in front of a festive tree. It was a really cozy setting. Santa and I are used to sitting closer together. It was a change for us. It put me in a position where I could also visit with the children before they got to him. I asked them about Christmas preparation, school, hobbies, and activities they had been involved with. Many are fascinated with the very old pendant watch that I wear. I let them look at it and feel it and open it. It was my great grandmother's. She handed it down to my grandmother, who handed it down to my aunt, who handed it down to me. It is to go to our oldest son after me.

I like to wear it because it reminds me of all of them and how they loved Christmas. Christmas has always been a very big tradition in my family, from the spiritual moments to fun with Santa. I like to feel like I carry all of them with me when I wear it.
