A Day to Remember: 2004
One Saturday we had two parties far apart. In the morning we met with the children of a company, as they were coming out of movies. The company had arranged for a private showing. The children were excited to see Mr. and Mrs. Santa waiting for them as they came out of the theatre. I was especially thrilled when a baby eagerly held out her arms to me. And she didn't want to leave.
Arriving and leaving the theatre was tricky. It was in the mall and the mall had their own Santa. Coming in and leaving, children flocked to us. Two boys said they would see us later in the mall to have pictures. Santa had to say that would be a clone. He told the children to be nice to him. Families in the theatre were invited to take pictures with their own cameras.
After this was over we went to Granny Buffet to eat lunch. Santa took off his bells and coat. We went in. The managers were delighted. We walked around for awhile, greeting people, then ate, then greeted some more. One man was there with about seven women. They were our age or younger. He kept staring at me as Mrs. Santa. Finally, with a lot of emotion, he said, "You are soooo beautiful!" It took me back. I thought, "This man has a thing for Mrs. Claus! I started looking for Mr. Claus.
After we were through eating we went into some shops that we buy from--to spread some cheer. Again, people's reactions were delightful. They talked about our dress, how we added to the spirit, and how they wished they had a camera. We left one area and went to some more stores that we shopped at. We visited with staff and customers. We walked along the sidewalk by the road. People honked and we waved. It was great to do this because we weren't charging anything. It felt so good to give. There was a group of girls singing carols in Santa hats. We sang with them.
In the evening we went to a family party. There were twenty children. We gave gifts and listened to Christmas wishes while many took pictures. Probaby the highlight for Mrs. Santa was she did the "good-bye" dance with Santa and the children. It was her first. You bend your legs, put your hands out in front like a begging puppy and bend from side to side while saying, "Good-bye, Good-bye."
A little girl told us that she loved Peter Pan but he never came to her. Santa was at a loss for words.
