"Dear" in the Headlights: 2006
We were at a Wendy's for lunch. It was early enough that the Santa virus had not fully done its work yet. The hair had not turned entirely white.A four-year-old stood staring at my husband like a deer in the headlights. She would not drop her gaze. Suddenly she jerked and looked frightened. She headed for the first pair of legs she saw. She hugged them tight until she realized it was not her mommy. "That's O.K." the sweet lady said, as the girl transferred her hug to the right pair of legs. You can't hide it, Santa!
